
Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere (UNIMOF) along with the Regional Leaders of Muhammadiyah (PDM) Sikka joined hands to commemorate the Isra Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad SAW combined with the 13th anniversary of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere, on Saturday (24/1/2026), at Amin Rais Hall, Maumere, Sikka Regency. The event was attended by university officials, lecturers, education staff, students, as well as Muhammadiyah members, demonstrating unity and synergy in building the Muhammadiyah Enterprises in the East Nusa Tenggara region, especially in Nian Tana Sikka.
The commemoration of Isra Mi'raj with the theme "The Wisdom of the Isra and Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad SAW in Building the Spirit of Worship, Dedication, and Knowledge" served as a reflective moment for the academic community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere to reaffirm spiritual values, work ethic, and dedication in academic life. The activity was not just a celebration of a significant Islamic day, but also a platform to strengthen the commitment to Islamic principles and knowledge, the main foundation for the development of the Muhammadiyah campus.
The event started with an opening speech by the Deputy Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere, Drs. Daniel Fernandez, M.Si., who shared a brief history of the establishment of UNIMOF as part of Muhammadiyah's effort to provide quality higher education in the eastern Indonesia region. He emphasized that campus progress should be based on a spirit of unity, ethics, and collective responsibility, focusing on positivity and progress without magnifying shortcomings, both individually and institutionally. According to him, maturity in attitude and synergy is the key to enabling UNIMOF to continue to grow and develop.
The subsequent speech was delivered by the Chairman of PDM Sikka, Mohamad Ihsan Wahab, S.H.I., M.Pd., who emphasized that the Isra Mi'raj event is a grand journey of the Prophet Muhammad SAW that demonstrates the greatness and power of Allah SWT that transcends space and time. He stated that this event serves as an important lesson for Muslims to maximize worship to Allah in all life circumstances. He also affirmed PDM Sikka's commitment to continue cooperating with Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere in the development of Muhammadiyah Enterprises, particularly in the field of education, to provide real benefits to the community and society at large.
The event was further enhanced by an Islamic art performance by students from the Muhammadiyah Waipare Private Elementary School (MIS). The performance reflected the continuity of Muhammadiyah's cadreship from an early age to higher education, showcasing the face of Muhammadiyah education that not only emphasizes academic aspects but also character development, arts, and Islamic values.
The peak of the event featured a sermon by Ustadz Yahdi Baco, S.H., who encouraged all attendees to extract deep insights from the event of the Isra Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad SAW. In his sermon, he emphasized the importance of dedication in work as an act of worship to Allah SWT, as well as sincerity and steadfastness in fulfilling responsibilities, especially for lecturers and staff of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere. He believed that work done with the intention of worship would generate a sincere and sustainable spirit of dedication.
On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Committee and also the Chairman of LPPAIK Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere, Abdul Gadri Jihad, S.Sos., M.Pd., stated that the commemoration of the Isra Mi'raj combined with the 13th anniversary of UNIMOF is a strategic moment for deepening the spirit of worship, dedication, and knowledge as per the theme. He emphasized that this activity is expected to provide hope and strength for all members of the academic community at UNIMOF, as well as the Muhammadiyah community in general, to continue to understand and emulate the Prophet Muhammad SAW as a form of dedication to Allah SWT.
He added that the example of the Prophet Muhammad SAW teaches that dedication to Allah always involves love and sacrifice. Therefore, loving the work in the Muhammadiyah Enterprises must be seen as part of worship and dedication, to be pursued with full sincerity in building the Muhammadiyah community. From this attitude, he continued, a spirit that never fades to continue advancing and developing the Muhammadiyah Enterprises and the overall Muhammadiyah organization will grow.
He also mentioned that the 13th anniversary of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere is an invitation to work hand in hand in building the Muhammadiyah Enterprises and the organization, especially UNIMOF, so that at 13 years old, it can further flourish, strengthen, and provide broad benefits to the community, especially to the people of Nian Tana Sikka.
The series of activities ended with cutting the ceremonial Tumpeng rice cone as a symbol of gratitude for the journey and growth of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere over the past 13 years. Through the commemoration of the Isra Mi'raj and the 13th anniversary, Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere and PDM Sikka reaffirm their commitment to continue providing higher education based on progressive Islamic values, strengthening the synergy of Muhammadiyah, and actively contributing to human resource development in Sikka Regency and the East Nusa Tenggara region.
